Case Study – Woofendens

Fire at Fir Lodge - Timeline

Woofendens working with Duralife

‘Woofendens were called in by insurers in mid-December 2014 following a severe fire at Fir Lodge, West Hill. 40% of the building was completely destroyed and 60% heavily smoke damaged. Woofendens had to start delicately removing the damaged structure whilst liaising with a specialist sub-contractor to safely remove a vast amount of asbestos. It was clear from the outset that the challenge would be to put the property back together as it was pre loss but also having to adapt the design to meet current building regulations.  Woofendens provided a project manager, in this case Ethan Pratt to enable designs, structural details and sourcing of resources and materials, whilst keeping the policyholder and insurers abreast of progress. Ethan would regularly meet with Rob Evans who lead the site team. Rob has and still is working hard to drive the project forward.

When it came to material & product selection it was Woofendens aim to resource as much as possible from local merchants and where necessary from reliable & quality driven local subcontractors. Duralife Windows were called in to supply and fit windows and doors to all apertures. Nick Richards attended the property to carry out a survey for Duralife. Nick’s knowledge prevailed, particularly his attention to detail that ran alongside Woofendens ethos. Woofendens were kept updated of their order and the Evolution Storm 2 gloss white windows from the A rated + 13 range and French doors with shaped frame above arrived bang on schedule. When it came to installation Duralife’s site team were very efficient and tidy. The standard of work was faultless and the end product has been complemented by many. Woofendens look forward to handing the property over to their client in early autumn.’
